We were thrilled to announce that for the third time in a row, a pivotal project aimed at addressing and mitigating the key challenges faced by migrants in host societies had been accepted for financing. This initiative marked a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to support youth workers dedicated to assisting young migrants.
The core ambition of the project was to foster a deeper understanding and develop effective solutions to the housing, healthcare, mental health, legal rights, and integration challenges that young migrants encountered. Our vision was to secure for these individuals not just a safe and suitable living environment but also comprehensive access to quality healthcare and mental health support. Recognizing the traumatic experiences many migrants endured, providing robust psychological support was a priority, alongside ensuring they were well-informed of their legal rights and statuses in their new communities.
Furthermore, the project was designed to promote policies and practices that facilitated the integration of migrants in a manner that benefited both them and their host societies. Through local activities, youth workers applied the theoretical knowledge they had acquired, transforming it into a practical toolkit for those in direct contact with young migrants.
In July 2024, we conducted an 8-day training session employing non-formal education methods for youth workers. This training involved 34 participants from a consortium of 12 organizations across 12 program countries, including Slovenia, Italy, Denmark, Estonia, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Turkey, Poland, and Portugal. These participants brought varied experiences in mentoring migrants, enriching the program with diverse perspectives.
Following the training, two virtual workshops enabled participants to share experiences and insights, fostering a rich exchange of knowledge. These workshops were crucial for evaluating the relevance of the addressed topics, refining best practices, and enhancing the mentoring system based on real-world feedback.
Each partnering organization subsequently hosted a conference to present the outcomes and impacts of the mentoring program, showcasing its efficacy in improving the lives of migrants and the communities that welcomed them.
The expected outcomes of the project were comprehensive: youth workers were equipped with practical skills, a functional mentoring system became operational across 14 countries, and best practices in migrant mentorship were promoted. By continually refining and expanding this mentoring system, our goal was to scale its impact globally, creating lasting change in the realm of migrant integration.
Leading this ambitious project was Povod, Slovenia, in collaboration with an impressive array of partners:
Each partner brought unique expertise and commitment, forming the backbone of this collaborative effort toward migrant integration.
Through this collective endeavor, we set new benchmarks in the support and integration of young migrants into host societies. Our systematic approach aimed not only to address immediate challenges but also to lay the groundwork for more inclusive and supportive communities worldwide.
The project was successfully completed in July.
