The Turkish organization DENEYIMSEL EGITIM MERKEZI DERNEGI played a key role in promoting the outcomes of the ‘Connecting Cultures: A Step Towards Integration’ project by organizing two impactful dissemination activities in Istanbul. These events aimed to equip professionals with practical mentorship tools while raising public awareness of the importance of mentorship in migrant integration.
September 2024 – Interactive Workshop: Practical Mentorship Strategies for Youth Workers
Recognizing the crucial role of youth workers in fostering social cohesion, DENEYIMSEL EGITIM MERKEZI DERNEGI organized an intensive one-day workshop in Istanbul designed for youth workers, educators, and NGO professionals actively involved in migrant support programs. The workshop focused on:
- Developing structured mentorship programs tailored to the needs of young migrants.
- Enhancing intercultural communication skills to bridge cultural and linguistic gaps between mentors and mentees.
- Building emotional intelligence and resilience among mentors to provide holistic support to migrant youth.
- Role-playing and case studies, allowing participants to practice real-life mentorship scenarios and receive expert feedback.
The workshop was designed as an immersive learning experience, blending theory with practical exercises to ensure that attendees left with applicable skills. Participants also received a digital toolkit summarizing best practices, mentorship frameworks, and strategies for fostering long-term mentor-mentee relationships.
October 2024 – Public Presentation: Mentorship as a Bridge to Integration
To engage a broader audience and amplify the impact of mentorship as a tool for integration, the organization hosted a high-profile public presentation in Istanbul. The event aimed to foster dialogue between stakeholders, including policymakers, educators, community leaders, and the general public. The presentation featured:
- Keynote speeches by experts in youth work, social inclusion, and migration studies, emphasizing the role of mentorship in breaking down social barriers.
- Personal testimonies from young migrants and their mentors, highlighting real-life experiences and the transformative impact of mentorship.
- Panel discussions with representatives from NGOs, government agencies, and educational institutions, addressing policy recommendations and sustainable mentorship initiatives.
- Audience Q&A session, encouraging community engagement and exchange of ideas on how to strengthen integration efforts.
The event received wide media coverage, helping to further spread the project’s message and encourage more individuals and institutions to get involved in mentorship programs.
A Sustainable Approach to Integration
Through these two distinct yet complementary activities, DENEYIMSEL EGITIM MERKEZI DERNEGI effectively strengthened the foundation for mentorship-based integration efforts in Turkey. The workshop empowered professionals with actionable strategies, while the public presentation broadened awareness and inspired a wider audience to support mentorship initiatives.
